How to download an Instagram video

  1. 01

    Copy the post link

Use Copy link in the individual video or Reel’s sharing menu. On the web, copy the post address. A profile link identifies an account, not a video.

  2. 02

    Prepare the video

Paste the individual link and choose Download video. Review the returned file details and, when it plays, the preview. Keep the page open until preparation finishes.

  3. 03

    Save your MP4

Choose Download MP4 when the file is ready. Confirm the save in your browser’s Downloads list; a save request alone does not prove it completed.

THE RIGHT LINK

Supported video and Reel links

This online Instagram video downloader handles one accessible public video or Reel at a time. Copy its individual post address; a username or profile URL identifies an account and cannot select a video. It does not download whole accounts or photo albums.

MP4 quality and file details

MP4 is a container, not a promise of HD. The retrieved file determines its resolution and available audio. Read the file size and, when your browser can measure them, dimensions and duration in the result.

PrivPeek streams the available MP4 without editing or upscaling it. Text, captions and logos already in the footage remain. File size depends on the returned media, not a fixed quality label.

In a desktop Chrome check on 18 October 2026, one public NASA video returned a 720 × 1280 MP4, 4.03 MiB and 28 seconds long. The MP4 was prepared and the browser download completed. This single desktop check does not verify iPhone saving or guarantee another post will load.

Understand video quality ↗

Find your saved video

iPhone Safari: Open Safari's Downloads list, then find the MP4 in the Downloads folder in Files. Your chosen location can differ. Photos import depends on file compatibility.

Android Chrome: Open the menu and choose Downloads. With a bottom address bar, swipe up on it to find Downloads. A file manager can locate the saved MP4; Gallery behavior varies.

Windows Chrome or Edge: Open the browser's Downloads list and locate the file or its folder. Edge also uses Ctrl+J. A custom save location overrides the default Downloads folder.

Mac Safari or Chrome: Use Safari's Downloads button and the magnifying glass to reveal the item in Finder. In Chrome, open Downloads to locate the file.

WHEN A LINK FAILS

If your video will not download

An invalid link, unsupported photo/carousel, inaccessible source, temporary limit and interrupted transfer need different next steps. A preview or a login prompt alone does not explain every failure.

Before the video appears

Copy the complete individual post link and check its type. Private, removed and restricted posts cannot be made available by this tool. A link opening in your signed-in app uses a different access context. Do not submit passwords or cookies.

During preparation

Read the error message. Wait for the displayed retry interval after a limit. For an expired result, prepare it again from the original post link. An unsupported file response or temporary source failure is not a finished MP4; do not save an error page as a video.

After selecting Download

Check your browser’s download list. If the browser reports an interrupted save, retry from the prepared file when available. If the MP4 exists but cannot preview, try a compatible player instead of assuming the download is missing.

YOUR LINK AND PRIVACY

How your link and file are handled

No Instagram login is required. PrivPeek sends the normalized post link in a request body to its server and configured Apify service. The server streams the returned MP4 without creating a media archive. This implementation does not deliberately log submitted post URLs; hosting and provider systems have their own logging and retention.

The prepared copy stays in this browser until you clear it or leave the page; saving creates a separate file on your device. Google Analytics is configured and may receive page and standard analytics information when it runs. No-login use is not a guarantee of anonymity. Read the privacy notes for request, analytics and caching details. Never paste a password, signed-in cookie or session token.

USEFUL ANSWERS

Instagram video download questions

Why is my Instagram video not downloading?

A wrong link, unsupported post, inaccessible source, request limit, expired result or interrupted transfer can stop preparation. Follow the specific error below the form; the troubleshooting guide explains the next safe step.

Does downloading change the video quality?

PrivPeek transfers the available MP4 without re-encoding or upscaling. Resolution and audio depend on that file; HD, 1080p and 4K are not guaranteed. Downloading cannot restore detail lost during source processing.

Can I download or repost someone else's video?

Public visibility does not grant copying or reuse permission. Save your own content or obtain permission for the intended use, and follow applicable copyright law and platform rules. Downloading does not transfer ownership.

Is the Instagram video downloader free?

There is no visitor charge or sign-up. Files are limited to 50 MiB and temporary request limits apply to keep the service available.

Do I need an Instagram account or login?

No Instagram login is required for this tool. It does not request your password, cookies or signed-in session. Use a supported public link; public visibility still does not guarantee a downloadable result.

Can I download a private Instagram video?

No. Private, removed and restricted content is outside this tool’s scope. Viewing a post in your signed-in app does not make it available here.

Can I use a profile username?

This tool needs the URL of one video post or Reel. The Instagram viewer on our homepage accepts usernames and profile links for available public previews.

Does PrivPeek add a watermark?

No watermark is added and the footage is not edited. Captions, logos and watermarks already embedded in the source video remain.

Is saving inside Instagram the same as downloading?

No. A saved reference inside an app and a video file on your device are different outcomes. Find the actual MP4 in your browser’s Downloads list or file manager to confirm a download.
